Camping by the fire: Unemployed daughter MisBehavin’ is coming this month for a week-long visit and Mr. B figured he had better get her into a camp. So he called around and it’s a little late to be vamping for camping. But gal pal Christy Jones at Camp Fire USA First Texas Council says better late than never and she had a spot for MisBehavin’ until she asked about her age. “24.” Well, that won’t work, but maybe you’ve got a young’un and you’d like to place it for a week at a fabulous resort, er, camp. Christy says you can choose the Camptivity Day Camp fun in southwest Fort Worth or in Azle. ALL REGISTRATION FEES included. WooHoo! Camps run through Aug. 27, but if you win, you’d better call, like NOW!

Stock up at lunch: When Warren Buffett and Matt Rose sat in the Six 10 Grille at The Ashton Hotel to structure the deal for Berkshire Hathaway to be the new conductor for Burlington Northern Santa Fe, they left a tip big enough to cover diners at that table for Six-to-10 years. And it’s your good fortune that debonaire Deb Rubin has come through with a lunch for two. If you use the leftover tip, you can freely sample the Mayor Mike cobb salad, the tenderloin, the homemade chicken frieds and more. It’s all depot-delish.

Three Jeffs and a Bill. That’s what you missed if you weren’t at the Chamber’s 128th annual meeting yesterday. Jeff Fegan, DFW International Airport (Spirit of Enterprise Award winner); Dr. Jeffrey Garten, keynote speaker (and husband of the Barefoot Contessa); Jeff King, J.P. Morgan, incoming Chamber chairman (“Go Frogs”); Bill Thornton (BBB), Fort Worth Chamber, and 800 of our closest friends were all there to hear about the “Intersection of Wall St. and Washington.”

Check our photo gallery for more photos, and in about a week, check the multi-media gallery for a video of the event.

Stock up any time: Go down to the Stockyards Station for a little shopping and they won’t Katie Nickles and Dimes you. No way, pardner! Everything is Cowboy-up grand, with more than 25 unique shops and good eats, too. You say you’ve been there a thousand times. But have you ever been there with 1,000 of Katie’s nickels? She’s got a $50 gift certificate good for use anywhere in the Station.

Works like a charm: As a financial planner with EdwardJones, Greg Kubes is not allowed to “guarantee” success. But with a name such as Kubes, he can “guarantee” happiness. Greg, you see, strayed, but not too far, from the family jewels. He’s part of the family that has been the long-time proprietors of a Fort Worth-renowned jewelry store. Greg went into the jewelry box and managed to snag us a $100 gift certificate. We’d call that a good financial plan.

Fore the kids: Mr. B may be too old for Vision Fort Worth and all these young professional outfits, but the spirit is moving him to sneak onto Hawks Creek Golf Course for next Tuesday’s FREE Juniors Day. Call, make a tee time. Get free range balls, free cart and free golf. Parents can walk, or caddy, but nooooo playing.

Name game: Smick Fletcher? The Network Funding mortgage guy was born Smith Rick Fletcher. Combo the first two names and you get Smick, who last week worked the laser to measure distances for the PGA during the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial. On the phone, when asked his name, he says “Smith.” So, they always ask, “What is your first name?”

Name game 2: William Guess runs Summit Press. On the phone, when asked his last name, he answers “Guess.” Stumped, they always ask again. Again, he answers, “Guess.”

Life starts before 40: Just love The Business Press’ 40-under-40 special publication, out last week. Photographer Glen Ellman has great photos, the stories are good on the up-and-already-here peeps and Bret Starr’s page is a must-see. Louise Appleman is verrrry complimentary about Fort Worth Opera’s Jennifer Kethley, which is good for Jen because she’s engaged to Cantey Hanger attorney Michael Appleman, who is one degree separated from Louise.

Parting with art: With Mr. B’s raise to $0.375, he needed to be looking for tax deductions. So he rounded up all of daughter MisBehavin’s artwork –the child period, the dark period, the drugs period, the even darker period – and has them ready to donate for the Arts Council of Fort Worth & Tarrant County’s June 25-26 art sale. Maybe there’s an Ansel in your attic?

Fire up the charcoal: The Chamber has a new member, Blue Line Caricature, and Mr. B is wondering if this is prison artwork because of the Thin Blue Line. Caricature character Chris Galvin is long-time artist at Six Flags and Grapevine Mills mall.

Welcome: Per request, we’re mentioning new member Perquest.

Fluf ‘n stuf: First Lady Michelle (Abs woman) Obama is spearheading a fight against obesity. Kathy Stern of Gorrondona & Associates already has won the battle: “I told them here at the office that there are actually no fat people in the world,” she says. “There are people who are simply not tall enough or there are people who are fluffy. I’ve opted for the latter.”

Suggestions? At his weight, Mr. B sheds his skin every 16 years and is due for a “new you” this month.  Alleia Spa & Body Conturing sent a note that B could choose between George Clooney and Rosemary Clooney.

Do not take this lightly: If I were an Am-Bass-Adorable and a pound or two overweight, I might be a bit self conscious at tomorrow’s ribbon-cutting for Fort Worth Lap-Band at I-30 and Forest Park. Might leave with less heft in that wallet.

Willed.I.Am: Erma Johnson, Chancellor at Tarrant County College, says she takes positive AND negative input and pushes for positive answers. Her vow: “I WILL lead with passion, with clear focus and without fear…that last one, I have to remind myself daily.”
