Kickin’ with caffeine: Am-Bass-Adorables, sans Megan Fox, will be at the House Coffee Bar and Fort Worth City Life Center tomorrow for a ribbon cutting and this is starting to sound similar to a boring Chamber announcement. But hold on, you business bean counters. This coffee house, recording studio, church on high at Texas and Florence streets is a pretty interesting place, with comfy chairs and conference rooms, too. You probably won’t make the ribbon cutting, so why not check it out with this offer of lunch and liquids for you and nine friends in a private room.

Fore the homeless: At the rate Miserly Mistress is dissing Mr. B in contract talks, Mr. B is about to be homeless. At least he’ll have Marvin Branch of Coors Distributing to help him out. Marvin was asked to put together a fundraiser for the county’s homeless coalition and Marvin outdid himself with Mulligans for the Homeless at 12 different courses March 29. TXU Energy thought the idea was electric, and Lacy Sperry made a nice contribution and gave her three foursomes to Newz-E-Letter. So if you are one of the 12 golfers selected to play at 8 a.m. for free March 29 at Hawks Creek, make sure you order Coors and keep Marvin laughing.

11:59:57: This could be a giveaway from (a) 24, or it could be (b) just seconds before the clock strikes midnight and you turn into a pumpkin. Since Jack Bauer doesn’t read Newz-E-Letter and Darcy Koch does, we’re guessing (b). The Casa Mañana marketing maestro has two sets of family four-packs for the April 2 opening-night performance of Cinderella at Casa, but only if you know the names of her wicked stepsisters.

PICTURE OF THE WEEK

Ahhh, the life of a Chamber intern. TCU senior finance major Cade McCloud could have been learning how to write Newz-E-Letter, but noooo! He'd rather lounge around blogging in Big Boss Bill's office, gossip with news lady Andra and tweet with gal pal Lauren. Work? Why work when you can skip a day (or two) and try out to be on Wheel of Fortune.

Cade spun fast and loose -- like his work habits -- and made it to the second round, which are scheduled tomorrow afternoon. Give the finance major C-R-E-D-I-T. He's going where the money is.

Curley Q’s and A’s: Back in 1979, when Mr. B was but a newspaper pup, he warned Tom Curley that this thing called USA Today would never work. Did Curley listen? No. And was Mr. B right? No!!! Curley fashioned news for America until 2003, when he took over The Associated Press as President and CEO and now fashions news for the world. It hasn’t been easy as news sourcing and news delivery have changed (think cable news, TMZ, Facebook and Twitter). As part of the TCU Neeley Executive Speaker Series, Dean Homer Erekson will interview Curley about the changes in news and business models. If you’d like to listen in during the March 31 breakfast at TCU, we’re your source.

Winner’s circle: Just a reminder that gear-heads should be jealous of AXA Advisor’s Chris Munizza, who is the trophy-holding guy at the NASCAR race in April at Texas Motor Speedway.

The leads we web: The Cowtown Leads Exchange has its own website, thanks to Ryan Cormier at Glint Advertising & Design. Cowtowners meet Thursdays at the House Coffee Bar.

Designer duds: The rooms where the 18-to-21-year-old ladies stay at the YWCA all have been decorated by interior designers, who donated their time and materials, and the rooms are about 10x better than most college dorms. Many of the women are finding nearby Tarrant County College Trinity River Campus a very convenient option for their return to school.

Bathroom humor: Hope this item flows well…Cally Monson of MMG is flush with 1,500 portable toilets. And yes, there are sponsor opportunities.

Going where the money is: This summer, EECU will open its 12th location, in Southlake.

She has to pony up: Umpires generally have to stay on their horse during a polo match. Robin Sanchez didn’t. The Polo Training Foundation / Brushy Creek Polo Ranch director had nothing bruised but her ego. Traditionally, in polo you owe the group a case of beer if you fall off. Because it was a college match, she is providing a case of Dr Pepper.

We’re not in Kansas: Sunday marks 10 years since that tornado ripped through Tarrant County, taking the Bank One building and top-floor tenant Reata restaurant with it. Reata is still cookin’ the cowboy way downtown and is commemorating with 10 menu items for $10, Sunday only. Included is a carne asada dish, the last meal served before the tornado, tenderloin tamales and a starter sampler platter.

King to the throne: Jeff King, private wealth wizard at JPMorgan Chase, takes over the Chamber chair’s hot seat April. 1, but won’t get the ceremonial gavel passed to him until June’s annual meeting.

Frogs on the menu: The American Advertising Federation Fort Worth will high-five the Texas Christian University footballers tomorrow with its 2009 Dateline Award, which is for bringing the national spotlight to Fort Worth.

Bowls for Business? TCU's Neeley School of Business is moving in on the school's Top-10 football stratosphere. Business Week ranked TCU 30th among 111 undergraduate business programs. Texas is ranked 10th, SMU 31st and A&M 44th. In the student survey, TCU was ranked No. 4.

It takes a community...: Fort Worth Museum of Science and History received a Community Award from the American Institute of Architects. All that activity during spring break must have appeared like its own community.

Get him a Ouija board: Star-Telegram Publisher Gary Wortel says his biggest challenge is he “doesn’t know what the business is going to look like five years from now.” But he says print newspapers aren’t going away. “What hasn’t changed is our commitment to credibility, which we think differentiates us from online media.”

Sinful cravings: If you, too, already have devoured your Thin Mints and can’t find a Girl Scout in sight, you could ask Worthington National Bank for some. It bought a slew-ful for gifts. Shelly Thompson at Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains, Inc. says there are a few precious boxes to be had at their Fort Worth and North Richland Hills offices.

Can’t keep up with the Joneses: Eric (Nationwide Insurance) Jones and Trent (OneCare computer fixer) Jones are two of 11 children. ELEVEN! Six boys and five girls, their own co-ed, flag-football team. Eric is 18 months older than Trent.

Glass is half full: Terry Sutton of Service Master Advanced Restorations was introducing himself to a Chamber gathering and concluded with “I’m also with AA.” OK, he had peeps’ attention. There was a slight murmur and Terry said, “…Action Ambassador.”

Always willing to serve: Banker Mack Davis at Capital One came to Fort Worth as the assistant banquet manager for the Hilton-now-Radisson Hotel.

Name game: The Kalon in Kalon Parman of Netera Network Integrations is a combo of father Kale and grandfather John. The Parman is NOT what he shoots playing golf.
