Encore performance: It won’t be music to your ears, but their ears will be open for business. The City of Fort Worth’s economic honchos -- Tom Higgins, Jay Chapa, Susan Alanis and Fernando Costa – have agreed to their second annual lunch with five Newz-E-Letter readers. It’s at noon May 6 and Walter and Hope at the Fort Worth Club graciously have agreed to host us. Sharpen your pencils and make it a work session; there’s $57 million to cut. Seriously, win this and you’ll be city slick with the latest updates.

Suite street: Crowne Plaza Colonial. TCU graduation. Summer daze at the Fort Worth Zoo. Is University the place to be or not? It’s hot, hot, hot, as is Julianna Viertel, who is selling a very cool, cool, cool property….the Marriott Courtyard. This is going to be a place to be the next few months and Juliannabannanadanna has secured a weekend night stay and breakfast for two. Oh, and the Internet is free.

Don’t be too chicken to lead: Jan Riggins at Express Employment Professionals was telling Mr. B that if you can’t lead, then get out of the way and just introduce this giveaway. OK, Jan, and thanks for showing the lead on this and clucking us with two tickets to the May 7th Chick-fil-A Leadercast event. From 7 a.m.-3 p.m. you’ll be 3-D’d on a 7th Street Movie Tavern screen with leadership talk from the likes of author Jim Collins and former NFL coach Tony Dungy. The ticket includes admission, lunch and a workbook.

PICTURE OF THE WEEK

Last week Fort Worth and Dallas Chambers came together for a first-ever joint trip to Washington D.C.  After a day on Capitol Hill and visit to the Pentagon, these forty-three DFW leaders were joined by Congresswoman Kay Granger during their final stop at Lockheed MS2. There the group received a private tour of the USS Freedom model and an update on the LCS 3 ship, that once commissioned will be named USS Fort Worth. Granger assisted with the efforts to name the ship after our city by asking local elementary students to submit drawings and letters to the Secretary of the Navy. To recognize these “Fort Worth Kids” Lockheed has compiled some of their drawings in a poster.

Above: Dan Schultz, Lockheed MS2 Vice President and General Manager of Ships and Aviation Systems and Congresswoman Kay Granger.

Honor thy mother: Next week, some regular peeps will be doffing their caps to some outstanding peeps. It’s Hats Off to Mothers, when Easter Seals of North Texas salutes incredible women/mothers. We’ve got a guest pass for two to the VIP evening reception May 4 at Colonial Country Club.

Never grew up! Someone call Brian Yost at Decker Jones. Isn’t there some kind of copyright infringement somewhere between the peanut butter and the play? We’re talking Peter Pan, and while attorney Brian figures that out, we’re flying off to Casa Mañana to watch Peter, Wendy, Tinkerbell and the Lost Boys in their magical adventure against El Capitan Hookster and his parade of pirates. We’ve got two family four-packs for your flight to Neverland.

Not wed to one dress: Both of Kim Campbell’s children recently got engaged and will marry within months next year. But the EdwardJones planner can’t wear the same dress because one of the knottings is a beach destination affair.

Gold in geriatrics: The average age of clients with Michael Dallas Wealth Management is more than 80, according to Sara Fix. “They normally don’t even come to us until they’re over 60,” she said.

Sign of the times: When Choctaw Casino Resort decided to sponsor Mike Wallace's NASCAR entry at Texas Motor Speedway, the Fort Worth-Alliance FASTSIGNS team of gearheads pushed the pedal overnight to get logos for the next day's qualifying run. “We went out to the track Friday morning and applied the side and tail graphics in the garage,” said David Seay of FASTSIGNS. “We had to wait to put the graphics on the hood because the crew had it up to work on the engine. The car was called to qualify before we got the hood graphics on, so we ended up applying them while walking next to the car as it was being pushed out to run.”

Just wondering: Tomorrow is the start date for 3-hour-limit waits in an airplane on a tarmac. What happens when someone wants to get off the plane?

Sherwin Williams Day: The Art Institute of Fort Worth celebrates its opening this afternoon with an open-to-the-public reception and a “splash party” … throw some paint onto a canvas and let students paint. Chamber Big Boss Bill is one of the speakers and listening will be similar to watching paint dry.

Up in a down economy: ForsheyProstok was selected by Chambers USA as one of the premier bankruptcy law firms in Texas, the only Fort Worth-based firm to be mentioned. Not sure how you promote that, but … “You Can Bank(rupt) On Us” or  “We Solve Your Insolvency.”

If he’s late…: If Peter Bonk arrives late to a Chamber meeting and appears travel weary, he has a great excuse. Peter shuttles to and fro from Germany after his company -- BAP Imaging Systems -- opened an office at TECH Fort Worth to expand medical imaging sales in the U.S.

Park and ride: For Super Bowl XLV, 300 feet of parking around Cowboys Stadium will be idled for Homeland Security reasons.

Nothin’ finer than Berzina: Fort Worth is "in the ninth inning" on four or five deals that each could bring more than 120 jobs, a sister cities deal with one of two cities in China and a trade/corporate relo mission to Hanover, Germany. All that according to David Berzina, the Executive VP of Eco Development for the Chamber. Wonder who gets all his AAdvantage miles? Oh, and this just scheduled: A major business-to-business event October 24 -28 in Fort Worth.

May the force be with you: If this were to happen, and this...and this, then it's possible that the 2010 Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl could feature Air Force versus Army, which signed an agreement to play, but only when if, if and if happen.

Bird on a wire: Some Dallas potholes were filled one day this month by a private sponsor, an insurance company. Mr. B is lobbying for the first Mayor Mike Grackle Going Away Party sponsored by Winchester Gallery Gun Store & Shooting Range.

Stylish humor: Trying to win a giveaway tux from Jos. A. Bank earlier this month, Julie Hunter of Regions Morgan Keegan Private Bank wrote: "My husband's tux is so old he married at least two of his wives in it!"

Science of success: Christina Brinker, CPA with Rylander, Clay, Opitz, is the math maven, but husband Andrew is the science guy. Tomorrow, he's taking a team of his Paschal students to the U.S. Department of Energy National Science Bowl Competition (think Jeopardy) in Washington D.C.

Extra, extra: Want to (non)star in a Red Productions movie? Searching for Sonny is a mystery/comedy written and to be directed by Fort Worth native Andrew Disney and featuring Jason Dohering (Veronica Mars). If you’re free any time May 5-June 2 and can play a background person, TCU grad and the Red in Red Productions says you’re in.  Break a leg!

Sudsy subplots: Richard Allen, Department Chair and Associate Professor of Radio-TV-Film at TCU, won an Emmy for As The World Turns and was nominated for an Emmy for Days of Our Lives.
